One of 24 Solar Terms in China. Minor Heat (Xiao Shu) is the 11th of 24 Solar Terms, It marks the arrival of hotter weather, but the extreme hot point has yet to arrive. It is the season when all kinds of melons are being harvested.
Compared to Minor Heat, Major Heat is much hotter, and it marks the hottest period with the highest temperatures in the year. It also marks the period with fastest growth for crops which enjoy heat. Many natural calamities such as floods, droughts and typhoons happen during these days.
Therefore, it's important to harvest and plant in time to avoid setbacks caused by natural disasters.
utumn begins on the August 8th this year. Although Start of Autumn indicates the beginning of autumn, hot weather will not come to an end.
The period of hot days after Start of Autumn, usually lasting for 30 days, is called "Autumn Tiger" or "Indian Summer". Because of decreasing precipitation, it is even more sweltering during this period than during Major Heat.
It's the 14th solar term of the year, begins this year on Aug 23 and ends on Sept 7. End of Heat implies that most parts in China are getting rid of the hot summer and entering autumn. It indicates the real beginning of cool autumn. Temperature declines gradually and vapors in the air often condense into white dew on the grass and trees at night.
Although the sunshine in daytime continues the heat of summer, temperatures decrease rapidly after sunset. At night, water vapor in the air turns into small drops of water when it encounters cold air. These white water drops adhere to flowers, grass and trees, and when the morning comes,the sunshine makes them look crystal clear, spotless white drops of water and adorable.
